Who is the Link Crew? That is a question that many students who didn’t go to a Chawanakee school before high school have. The goal of this article is to inform the readers how important Link Crew is and what they even do.
Link Crew is a program for older students to help younger students transition into high school more smoothly. These kids also bring up heavy topics to educate these 7th and 8th graders about the dangers of such things. They are leaders for these kids at this time.
We asked one of the link crew leaders, Mrs. Chacon, what the link crew is, “The link crew team is devised by the leadership team, so the same group of kids do both.” Our follow-up question asked what the purpose of Link Crew is and Chacon said that the purpose is to help kids transition into high school that are in years 7th and 8th grade and makes them less nervous by already knowing some kids.
The Link Crew doesn’t do just one school it does multiple to help kids all around. They do this because our high school students come from all around. The Link Crew meets a total of four times, the first time along with the second time, they meet and introduce themselves to the kids and play games. The team also asks questions like what are you excited about when you enter high school etc.
Our next interviewee was Josh Wolford and we asked him where these meetings take place and he said “At the actual elementary school schools.” The last person we interviewed was Violet Bellisario. The question we asked was why do we have a link crew? She responded, “It gives a familiar face going into high school and it kind of preps them.” She also said it impacts the students very well and gives them someone to look up to and most kids remember their link crew leaders as she said she remembers hers still as well.
The third time Link crew meets with the kids they get a bit more serious and talk about hard topics. Some example topics they have talked about before were suicide prevention and safety online. This meeting serves as a lecture for these kids to be safe and get help whenever they need it.
Link crew has already had their first meeting with North Fork, Hillside, and Spring Valley. They got to know the kids and had a very fun day with them. They are planning to go back to the schools in November for their hard-topic talk.
